Another Brittany picture, done from a photo. Nita, a painter I admire very much, has been stopping by and leaving helpful comments since I started this project. Yesterday, she sent me the link to the blog finirenbeauté, where Jean-Pierre Pyat posts his amazing work (really – go have a look) and his thoughts on various aspects of painting. His article on values (in French) puts a simple spin on the subject. He explains that he tries to keep values down to just four in his paintings, and to use value to move the viewer’s eye through the painting. (Nothing new, I know, but said in a new way to me). I first made a value sketch in black and white based on the photo, which helped me to work out some of the problems :
Then I tried hard to stick to my basic design.
So that’s 29 for me in the 100 landscapes project.
