Istanbul

May 3, 2010

Some sketches done around the city when I was there a couple of weeks ago.  What an amzing place, from the little I saw.  I’m dying to go back there and spend more time.

This one is wonky because buses kept passing in front of me as I was drawing.  I finally gave up.

Topkaki Palace – while I was drawing this, an adorable German high school girl who’s spending a year in Istanbul came over to chat and show me her diary and her sketches.

The shoeshine man across from my hotel – he was trying to get some attention from one of Istanbul’s many sreet cats, but the kitty snubbed him and walked away.

A still life that was all set up at the government art school’s café, where Laura and I stopped to thaw out our frozen fingers and got a private tour from our waiter Mehmet- an art student himself.

Casey, these are really amazing–I really love your treatment of them–they’re beautiful! That first dome view and the still life at the end here are simply stunning. So loose and lively as always.

Your paintings are truly inspiring! They made me want to get out and draw sketches of Istanbul, immediaely.. But unfortunately, not everyone has a talent like yours.. So I’m still in..🙂

All of the above paintings and the one named Streetscene in Turkey (in oil I guess..) are delightful..

I’d like to put some of these to my “Istanbul Art” pages, if you say okay.. (please, please, please..)🙂

I will get in touch with you about them..

Here is my website if you’d like to see and anyone else who wishes to know more about marvellous Istanbul:
