An attempt at acrylics and a couple of market sketches

July 23, 2009

I haven’t had much time to participate in Nel’s oil class this time around, but today I did sit down and try to do a landscape in acrylics.  I worked from a photo, as it was pouring rain most of today, and muddled my way through – never having done a painting in acrylics before.  Here’s what I came up with :

I think I like the texture of oils better, but I really like the way acrylics dry quickly, and you can paint over without muddying up your darks.

And a couple more market scenes, an egg vendor and a goat-cheese vendor. Doing this project is making me realize how cool it is to have this wonderful market so close.

Avantage énorme de l’acrylique : la vitesse de séchage !… J’aime beaucoup tes scènes du marché…

This is such a wonderful moody painting, Casey. The foreground particularly works wonderfully with that backdrop of reeds. Amazing first effort but I’m hardly surprised after your fantastic achievements with oils.

I’ve noted somewhere that you are off on another trip. What a life! Enjoy 🙂 Bring back sketches!

I’ve never tried acrylics, but your painting looks awesome! May I also ask what kind or brand of watercolors do you use? They are so bright!

Effectivement, pour un premier essai à l’acrylique, c’est incroyablement réussi!!!
