October Afternoon

October 20, 2008

We are experiencing the most wonderful Indian summer that anyone can remember here in France.  Yesterday, my neighbor Nicole and I went down to the river with our sketchbooks and tried to capture the perfect light.  Nicole’s an oil painter who’s just beginning to work in watercolors.  She really enjoyed the immediacy of the medium, and the fact that we were outside rather than shut up in a studio.

These are lovely, expressive paintings Casey and I’m jealous. I think I missed the best Fall outdoor sketching weather here in NYC. It is currently 44 degress F.

Lovely sketches. I envy you having someone to sketch with and talk art with who is near-by. You obviously picked a beautiful day for being out side.

*sigh* I’ve missed your vivid colors and loose brushstrokes. Don’t know why I’ve been away so long. This is simply the best way to start a day.

The light you capture in these is just marvelous! Immediacy is the perfect word to describe the experience of seeing these images — I immediately felt like I was right there, basking in the sun! We’re having a lovely Indian summer too.

These are wonderful, Casey. You really captured the beautiful light of a warm “summer-like” fall day. Those were always very special days in Maine.

Eesh, I’d KILL to be able to do anything remotely close to these, actually anything identifiable in the smallest way. I love the … gosh I don’t know the word … the movement? the feeling of depth? I’m sure there’s a proper art/sketch/draw word … they just feel alive to me, the way my eye REALLY sees them … I just love your blog.

I almost missed these gorgeous sketches – all capture the wonderful Indian Summer and I particularly love the little boat.
