A Day in Paris with Marta
Ronell and I went into Paris to spend the day with Marta yesterday. We had a wonderful day – the sun stayed out for most of it, and we wandered all over chatting and getting to know one another, and doing a little sketching. In the morning we went to Shakespeare and company and the Sennelier art store where we drooled over the giant pastels among other things. After a long search, which included actually sitting down at one restaurant, getting a menu and then deciding to leave, we found the perfect place to eat (the Bergamote, at 8, rue Montfaucon in the 6ème) where they do wonderful innovative dishes based on vegetables and fresh herbs. I really liked the ricotta with beets and raspberries that we had as a starter :
We went sketching in the Luxembourg Garden before the rain chased us away-
Our last stop of the day was the Montparnasse Cemetary – here’s Marta climbing all over Baudelaire’s tomb trying to get a good shot:
And finally, a hot chocolate in a café near the station before we parted company. I sketched the café en face, but by then I had stopped even pretending to concentrate.
Oh I have been waiting for this – OHHHH how I envy the three of you, having such fun, eating, talking and sketching and all In PARIS!!! What a day, what lively sketches, what Fun!
You get the sketching under fire badge, Casey. I just can’t manage to greet, eat, shop and sketch all at the same time. Brava girl! And yes, I would love to have been there. It also sounds like you found my perfect restaurant – no dead bunnies in sight!
Sounds like such fun and you produced so much considering the amount of talking I imagine that went on! 😉
What I’d have given to be there with you all!
BTW, I’ve never seen beetroot look so inviting!
Your sketches look as great here as they look in your sketchbook casey! I love the bench with the bench in the Jardin du Luxembourg. And when I look at your last sketch, I get that lovely feeling of a winter’s night in Paris!
It was fun!
Ronell
What a fabulous day you 3 had, and how you must treasure the opportunity to meet and spend time with these special friends. Thank you for letting all of us experience it with you. Your pictures and sketches are wonderful, but it is the story I will remember.
I really enjoy the way you use line with watercolour. Do you use a waterproof pen? x
Looks like you had a WONDERFUL day! Beautiful drawings and photos Casey!
Hey, I want to have been there! What fun you all had! Don’t you love Bergamote? David and I had lunch there on our last day in September? The desserts ARE to die for! I love, love, love the way you sketch, as you know. Will go and see what Ronell and Marta produced!
Casey, I’ve thanked Ronell and Marta and now must also thank you for sharing this special day via paintings and photo. I particularly like the bench painting. Lovely!
These are wonderful!!! I have been following along at Marta’s blog too. Great sketches.

Great day, great sketches.
Hi Casey, I am so glad I finally made it to your site, I have been trying to see it and when I click on your name it takes me to another deadend site. I love your work and sketches. I envy you getting to sketch with so many visitors. Thank you so much for helping Marta select my pastel colors. I really love them although I haven’t done anything with them. I am feeling the Picasso pressure of creating a masterpiece with them so I don’t touch them.LOL Someone told me maybe I should frame them and write “Break in case of Emergency only” on the glass. Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my blog, now that I found yours I will blog it to mine.
