Sketching on a Sunny Afternoon
Today has been gorgeous here – perfect Indian summer weather. Forgive me if it’s not nice out wherever you are, but we’ve paid our dues this year – it was cold and rainy all summer, and they are predicting cold and rain for tomorrow. Ronell and I couldn’t stand to be indoors for our weekly painting day, so we walked over to the Ile d’Or, which is an island in the Loire, sat with our backs warming in the sun and drew a statue of Leonardo da Vinci that overlooks the river. (He spent his last 3 years here in Amboise, if you’re wondering why the statue.)
We the turned our attention across the river and drew what we saw – in my case the edge of the castle gardens and the houses just below them. I was just too lazy, sitting there in the sun, to attempt the castle itself.
It wasn’t the most productive art day we’ve had, but it was one of the most pleasant, I think. I’m trying to store up the memory for the cold gray days ahead.
