In the Luxembourg Gardens with Laura

September 8, 2007

Laura of Laurelines and I met up yesterday for an afternoon of sketching, in Paris. We also fit in some art supply shopping (oh – the Sennelier shop!) and had a great lunch at the Coupole, (Picasso and Hemingway’s old hangout). This was a big deal for me, because I first decided to try blogging after coming across her wonderful Paris drawings last October. If you follow her blog, you should know that she is just as beautiful and elegant as her drawing style, and lots of fun to spend an afternoon with.

In the morning we drew at the Médicis Fountain, and after lunch sat by a permanent Pétanque game and drew the people playing and especially the spectators. Laura did a beautiful sketch of me while I was drawing other people. Altogether une journéé très agréable!

Here’s the portrait she did of me :

my one sketch at the Médicis Fountain :

and here are a few random people sketches from the pétanque game:

Laura’s drawings are gorgeous – she’s able to capture a person right away, and includes beautfiful detail. Make sure to have a look at her work!

Oh Wonderful!!!! I’ll bet your day was fantastic! Your painting of the fountain and your figure drawings are great. The portrait of the older gentleman — hmmmm… I guess the 6th one down? — is especially striking. And you had your portrait done by the amazing Laura, too — that’s another big plus. 😉

What a fun day! I am, of course, hugely jealous. And your people drawings are so expressive! The fountain watercolor too is delightful. I really like the loose use of color: so lively.

Gorgeous job on the fountain, Casey and I’m blown away by all your great character sketches. Lovely touches of colour in the last group. Laura makes you look just as I imagined you and how great to have a day together. Unforgettable I bet.

Mon ami! I can’t wait for a day in Paris sketching, lunching and getting to know each other! What an adventure awaits! I’ll email you this week with the days I will be there. I’m so excited!
These are all wonderful sketches. I am an admirer of Laura also and am constantly inspired by all my artist friends! I’ve wandered the Luxemburg Gardens and enjoyed watching the children and their sail boats in the pond. I took was facinated by the men sitting and playing board games. Your people sketches are great!
