Every year in August we go with friends to a castle in Provence called Javon. It sounds glamorous, but is actually pretty rustic. As it’s far from everything, there’s not a lot to do, and I tend to sketch in the afternoon while waiting for everyone to wake up from their after-lunch siesta. While looking for something in my studio, I came across this collage/drawing done from a sketch of the table in the garden there. I must have done it this winter, when it was dark and cold and summer and the south seemed so far away. We’ll be back there in a month or so, and I’ll do some more drawing, but since I haven’t done any other art work today, I decided to post this now.

This drawing/collage looks really great! It’s something strange. I mean how can simple forms, or different colours can show a place, can help develop an image in one’s brain, maybe see things that aren’t there too. Terriffic work.

Gosh, that’s beautiful, Casey. It should be in a frame.

Oh! I just love this. The composition, the abstraction, the colors, the scribbles, the collage… it’s all just so wonderful.

I really like this! The colors are great. It’s so lose and casual, but I just love it. 🙂

Thanks guys! I love doing this sort of thing, but always feel a little insecure about the results – your encouragement makes me want to do more.

I adore this!! This could be an illustration for a French magazine of some sort or another—or any magazine!
    It’s very confident and fun.
