contours with wash

April 11, 2007

Here are some contour drawings with watercolor wash. I’ve been working with a couple of his books, The Natural Way to Paint and How toPaint What you Want to See. The first one was done with the wash first, and it’s the least successful. If you know Charles Reid’s work, you’ll see that I’m still in my imitation phase in the learning process.

These are really amazing! I’m not familiar with his work, but love your interpretation of it.

Such beautiful drawings, Casey! Ididn’t have enough time yesterday at figure class to really appreciate them. My personal favorite…the second last one, but they ‘re all so sensitively done…just beautiful.

I hadn’t seen these ones!! I do love them! As always, I love the lines, the colours you choose and where and how you use them. Beautiful!

I love your figure sketches. I have my figure drawing session on Thursday evening. I’m thinking of doing some watercolor work this time. Thank you for the inspiration!

I like these a lot – yes I do see the Reid influence, but in a very good way – you’ve done your own thing with it!

I like your work too. Especially the looseness of your watercolors. Now I’m going to take a peak at the rest of your drawings.

I recognised the Reid influence immediately – I got very inspired by “The Natural Way to Paint” about 10 years ago and did some figures in this kind of style (or as close to it as I could manage) but never got past that imitation stage you mention. Certainly I never produced such lively lines as these!
