Split Complementaries
June 28, 2012
I’ve been experimenting with painting with a very limited palette lately. One thing I’ve done is use only 3 colors plus white to see how far it could be pushed. Here are some of the results.
These were done with yellow, red violet and blue violet.
And this one with green orange red and violet red.
More soon – I’ve been painting up a storm since I discovered limited palettes.

Beautiful quality of light you’ve achieved here, Casey. Great perspective too. Very pleasing paintings. Wonderful to see you on a roll again.
Freeing. These are lovely.
Thank you, These were fun to do, even though they are just about shadows.
My dear friend, these are so beautiful as are the ones from the previous post. I’ve been thinking of you these days remember how nice it was having you and Michel here for a visit. bisous, marta
I have also done a few paintings with three colours plus white. I started with a limited palette because I wanted to add Open Medium to my colours & didn’t want too many. Then I found I liked painting that way.
Funny how much easier it is….
It’s so nice to read you again and to see what you’ve been up to. These oils are amazing! particularly the last one! Wow! A giant leap forward; it may be due to your friend taking good picutres but we can easily see how much you’ve worked!!!!
I love the light and depth in the top right one.
